Description

This advanced course is aimed at senior trainees, fellows and junior consultant level surgeons with an interest in head and neck reconstruction.

Free flaps covered will include fibula, iliac crest, scapular system and medial femoral condyle plus a number of soft tissue donor sites.

Virtual surgical planning and 3D modelling will be covered within the course to gain an insight into current and future applications.

With a high faculty to participant ratio, and excellent resources this course will provide an unmatched educational experience in head and neck reconstruction.

Learning objectives
Review a knowledge of donor site anatomy to successfully apply appropriate composite and soft tissue free flaps for specific head and neck indications
Predict the challenges for reconstruction which are mandated by specific defect sites in the maxilla, hemimandible, total mandible, and patients requiring dental rehabilitation
Perform 3D virtual surgical planning at an in depth level for head and neck reconstruction
Use concepts gained in a surgical planning session to incorporate 3D planning into head and neck reconstructive surgical practice
Discuss future areas of digital surgical planning with other participants and faculty
Review anatomical knowledge, and surgical descriptions perform free flaps on anatomical specimens
Discuss the avoidance of complications and optimisation of results
