Description

Goal of the course

This face-to-face AOCMF course focuses on best practices and state-of-the-art techniques in managing mid and upper facial trauma at an advanced level using human anatomical specimens. Strong emphasis will be given to workflow optimization according to AO principles while addressing clinical controversies.

Target participants

Certified surgeons, fellows, and residents nearing the end of their training who are involved in the management of facial trauma including plastic surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, head and neck surgeons, and ENT surgeons.

Course description

This course is designed through a combination of focused lectures, small group discussions, and hands-on practical exercises with human anatomical specimens. Expert faculty will moderate all activities in a highly interactive learning environment. Participants are encouraged to discuss the cases and content in an open manner and to share their own experiences.

Learning objectives
Select and plan the proper approach for cases with mid and upper face fractures
Perform and refine surgical skills to expose the mid and upper face skeleton
Refine surgical reduction and fixation techniques to mid and upper face skeleton
Perform transnasal medial canthopexy
Harvest a split calvarial bone graft and obliterarte frontal sinus
Identify strategies to minimize and manage complications of fractures of the mid and upper face
Recognize recent advances and controversies in managing fractures of the mid and upper face
Apply appropriate treatment and rehabilitation strategies when managing fractures of the mid and upper face
