Goal of the seminar

This AOCMF seminar focuses on state-of-the art techniques and best practices at advanced level in orthognathic surgery. Emerging technologies will be introduced and clinical controversies will be addressed. Management of complex orthognathic surgery will be discussed.

Seminar description

This seminar is composed of lectures and case presentations. Techniques and best practices in orthognathic surgery are taught. Lectures cover new technologies in orthognathic surgery and management of complex dentofacial deformities with orthognathic surgery. Patient cases and treatment plans are discussed in small groups with expert faculty.

Target participants

This seminar is for surgeons and trainees in surgery across the craniomaxillofacial specialties (including oral and maxillofacial surgery, ENT, head and neck, plastic, oculoplastic, ophthalmology, and neuro and general surgery). It is targeted at participants who want to improve their knowledge or specialization in the management of complex patient problems in the field of CMF in relation to management of dentofacial deformities using orthognathic surgery.

Learning objectives
Discuss the latest advances and controversies in presurgical orthodontic treatment.
Discuss how to improve aesthetics with genioplasty, simultaneous rhinoplasty, and adjunctive soft-tissue procedures.
Evaluate computerized vs articulated planning and prediction.
Discuss sequencing for bimaxillary surgery, splintless surgery, distraction osteogenesis (DO) vs osteotomies.
Address and solve specific problems such as idiopathic condylar resorption, alterations of the occlusal plane, and arch width discrepancies.
