This 3-day, Masters-level course focuses on state-of-the-art techniques and best practices at a master's level in soft tissue reconstruction. The most complex reconstructive problems are addressed: soft tissue deformities and contractures of the face that result from trauma, oncologic resection, radiation therapy, and bony malunion. Focus is given to soft tissues around the eye and difficult eyelid problems.
Topics of the course will be taught in three main ways. Lectures will concentrate on the introduction of core material. Small group discussions will be case-based and will be used to elaborate on the core content introduced through lectures. Practical sessions performed on human anatomical specimens will teach common surgical approaches, soft tissue handling and reconstruction, and incision closure techniques.
Discussions will be held throughout the course to link the lecture material and practical skills taught with the problems encountered by the course participants in their individual practice. All activities are moderated by expert faculty in a highly interactive learning environment. Participants are encouraged to discuss the cases and content in an open manner and to share their own experiences.
